behind the branding with Seattle Jones:

Seattle Jones offers matchmaking real estate services so you can live your happily ever after. The direction for the branding was worldly yet detailed. Through the colors and iconography, we were able to capture both Seattle and sailing - staples to the Seattle Jones story. Together, we crafted a full branding suite including main and alternate logos, color palette, typography, and animated logo, and website.

We’ve always believed illustrated logos to be a rare and personal way to set your brand apart from the rest. Our design tends toward simple line strokes and hand drawn vibes, while many brands these days feature singular typefaces or one-off vector icons. What we deliver is fully functional and in vector format (where applicable), yet the touch of personality through illustration truly sets a brand apart. Every client has us doing a happy dance, because it means you are one step closer to bringing your dream to life, an animated illustrated project is just the sprinkles and cherry on top. 

This branding project was a dream come true with the opportunity to both illustrate and animate a very personal and unique logo experience. Details of the Seattle skyline pepper the nautical compass all while sharing the story of Seattle Jones’ sailing, Seattle and real estate journey. We began with the static logo to navigate the spacing, sizing, and details to be included. With any animation project, especially when constructed the old-school one-frame-at-a-time way, it is important to have your final “image” or frame perfectly locked in to avoid endless tedious revision. Animation is a learn-as-you-go process, and the more you spend time making things move, the better you become at prepping, laying out, and duplicating layers for a seamless construction experience. Once the final logo concept was constructed and complete, we moved on to storyboard how and when each element would move throughout the animation. The pink lines highlighted in the accompanying photo indicate the direction and timing in which an element would move. This first storyboard was nearly the final version with only slight changes made to the ferris wheel timing. Good prep and organization can make both the daunting task of illustration and animation a breeze.

Finally, the website navigation, design, and template were formatted and constructed to provide a blank canvas for Seattle Jones as they migrated from an existing site. The goal of this website was to provide the freedom and independence to make changes and updates as needed. The result: truly one-of-a-kind branding and a website to connect Seattle natives and newbies to their city through matchmaking real estate services.
